Socio-economic Threats to Working Forests
North Carolina's forests and other spaces are being fragmented and converted to development. Forests are lost to residential, commercial and industrial development, expansion of utility and transportation infrastructure. Rural areas are also subject to parcelization that impacts the long-term sustainability of those working forests. Identify regulatory and tax framework (planning, zoning, and policies) that affect forest owners desire and ability to sustain their forests.
